San Sebastian Jan. 20th. The big day of San Sebastian begins early in the morning, with the Holy Mass, after which the venerated image leaves from the temple to the sea, preceded by a horsemen’s entourage. On the back of their horses they surprise year after year, the curious gathered in the area, with their ability to introduce animals into the sea, a show that combines devotion to San Sebastian, love for animals and personal improvement of each of them.
Semana Santa. Passion performance. Holy Friday on Calle Grande street takes place the performance of Passion and death of Jesus Christ, locals dressed in vintage clothes represent the scenes of: The last supper, the prayer on the Mount of Olives, the betrayal of Judas, the judgment in the Sanhedrin, the washing of the hands of Pilate and the plea of his wife, the lashes and the crown of thorns, the passage with the cross, Veronica, the encounter with the mother and finally, death on the cross and the cry of Mary. They are some of the scenes interpreted by the actors that fill evangelical texts with life and reality.
Rogative prayer to the Virgin of the Incarnation. It takes place on the second Sunday of Easter. The pilgrims leave at 9:00 in the morning from the church of Santa Úrsula, in Adeje, until they reach the hermitage of San Sebastián in La Caleta, on the seashore. This act is celebrated every year, and with it, the population of the municipality once again fulfills the promise they made more than 300 years ago to the employer of the municipality to free them from the locust plague that ravaged the municipality in that epoch.
Craft Fair. The town hall of Adeje has been organizing the Craft Fair since 2000, a cultural and artistic event where the work of more than a hundred Canarian artisans, specialized in different disciplines, is exhibited. The show is traditionally held in Plaza de España and Calle Grande street from 10:00 in the morning until 20:00 hours.
Corpus Christi. Salt mats for Corpus. Neighbors, associations of Adeje and staff of the town hall become artists for two days to elaborate the traditional carpets of salt that adorn several streets of the municipality on the occasion of the celebration of Corpus Christi.
The pilgrimage of Adeje, an explosion of color, gastronomy and folklore. The municipality of Adeje, with an impressive cultural and heritage wealth, is a party town during the month of October. Visitors who come to this town in the south of Tenerife are pleasantly surprised by the wide socio-cultural and religious activities.
